Where do I fit in?” Nadine Batchelor-Hunt Nadine Batchelor-Hunt travels to Israel to explore Black Jewish identity. This was my programme idea that got commissioned by BBC World Service. Myself and the presenter Nadine travelled to Israel to record the majority of the programme on location. This was during the Covid pandemic so the logistics of getting into the country complicated matters. We met a variety of contributors and spent time at their holy festival of Sigd in Jerusalem. This is coupled with perspectives from a food historian and a scholar on the significance of shared culinary experiences for marginalised communities. We join Melissa as she learns a cherished fried chicken recipe and highlights how some are reclaiming the dish despite its problematic past.
